Back to I Ching Q&A

Ethics, privacy, and safety

Consent and professional limits are basic requirements.

May I cast about someone who has not consented?

You may reflect on your own relationship with that person, but should not claim that a figure reveals their thoughts, health, fidelity, or future. When the core question concerns another person’s private state, interpretation easily outruns consent and evidence.

Reframe it around what you can responsibly do: “How should I communicate?” or “Given the known facts, what boundary should I set?” This keeps the reflective value without turning a symbol into a judgment of someone else.

What information should not be entered on the platform?

Do not enter real names, identity numbers, phone numbers, addresses, medical record numbers, account details, trade secrets, or details that identify another person. Use aliases such as A or B, and generalize amounts or dates when precision is unnecessary.

A useful question needs roles, conditions, and a decision—not a complete personal record. Before adding information about someone else, ask whether the decision can still be described without it; in most cases it can.

Why must divination not replace a doctor, lawyer, or financial adviser?

Those fields require professional training, verifiable evidence, legal accountability, and follow-up. A symbolic reading cannot diagnose, represent a client, or assess a financial product; treating it as a professional conclusion can cause delay, loss, or harm.

Use the reading to clarify what you fear, what you need to ask, and which options exist. Let qualified professionals handle evidence and concrete plans, then make your decision with adequate information.

A reader says I must pay more to avert disaster. Should I believe them?

Treat that claim as a serious warning sign. Pressure based on fear, curses, secrecy, or a payment deadline is a common form of manipulation. No hexagram proves that paying a particular person is necessary to avoid harm.

Stop paying and sharing data, preserve messages and receipts, and discuss the situation with someone you trust. If fraud, threats, or major losses are involved, contact the payment provider and relevant consumer-protection or law-enforcement body.

What should I do if a casting makes me extremely anxious?

Pause interpretation and repeated casting. A hexagram is a symbolic tool, not a danger alert. If reading prevents sleep, disrupts daily life, or produces constant reassurance-seeking, it is no longer serving reflection.

Return to facts you can confirm and speak with someone you trust. If anxiety persists, panic develops, or thoughts of self-harm appear, seek mental-health support or contact local emergency services.
